Living room textiles are where comfort meets design. Here’s a simple framework interior designers use to layer fabric—so the space feels cohesive, elevated, and durable.
Start with the anchor fabric
Pick one primary upholstery or drapery fabric that sets the tone. Consider texture first, then color, then pattern.
Add contrast with secondary textures
Pair matte + sheen (bouclé with a subtle luster weave)
Mix scale (large pattern with small texture)
Balance warm + cool tones for depth
Finish with accents
Accent pillows, benches, and occasional chairs are perfect for bolder color and pattern—especially when the anchor fabric is more restrained.
Designer tip
If you’re unsure, keep the palette consistent and vary texture. Texture reads as ‘luxury’ even when the palette is minimal.
